Older people possess valuable knowledge, skills, stories and life experience. However, some may experience digital exclusion, loneliness, reduced confidence or difficulty accessing services that have increasingly moved online.
Saviour Empowerment CIC is beginning to map out plans for programmes created with and for older people.
Our aim is not to make assumptions about what older residents need. We want to listen to them, understand their priorities and develop activities that are respectful, enjoyable and practical.
Possible areas of support include:
- Using smartphones, tablets and computers
- Making video calls and staying connected
- Booking appointments online
- Accessing essential services safely
- Recognising scams and fraudulent messages
- Sending emails and photographs
- Building digital confidence
- Social activities and friendship
- Confidence-building and lifelong learning
- Sharing knowledge, stories and personal skills
Digital inclusion can help older people maintain independence and participate more fully in modern life. Nevertheless, the programme will not focus only on technology. It will also create opportunities for conversation, connection and meaningful involvement.
We recognise that older people are not one single group. Some are highly confident with technology, while others may be using a digital device for the first time. Our support will therefore be patient, flexible and suited to different starting points.
As we develop these plans, we hope to involve older residents, carers, volunteers and partner organisations. Their contributions will help us create a programme that responds to real needs rather than simply offering what we think people might want.
Everyone deserves the opportunity to continue learning, contributing and connecting at every stage of life.
We look forward to sharing further details as this important programme develops.
